Portugal Fashion enters a “new era” for 2023-26. The strategy is to be “increasingly dependent on public funds”

Portugal Fashion will enter a “new era” in the next October edition based on the new strategies that will be outlined in the memorandum of understanding signed this Tuesday, said the director of the fashion event, Mónica Neto.

The National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE), which manages Portugal Fashion, signed a memorandum of understanding in Porto with the Portuguese Textile and Clothing Association (ATP), the Porto City Council, the Catholic University and Deloitte, designated by ” Re. Port / Portugal Fashion 23-26 Future Strategy by ANJE with U. Católica do Porto and Deloitte”, with the aim of outlining a new strategy for Portugal Fashion 2023-2026.

Questioned by the Lusa news agency about whether this memorandum will change the next edition of October 2023, Mónica Neto considered that a 2023-2026 plan will not make everything happen as of October, but she assumed that the objective is to “create a plan of action that evolves in a certain direction”.

“We do not believe that everything that is the objective of this plan will be structured in October, but rather, with the first steps and the first airs of some change and of a new Portugal Fashion. We are aware that starting from such a well-structured base, there will necessarily be new things (…) and we have some assumptions regarding the need to make some changes that will make the next edition a new era in the history of the event”.

According to him, between June and July the discussion of the strategic scenarios and the conclusions of the options for the future strategy of Portugal will be presented.

Luís Marques, coordinator of the study at the Business School of the Universidade Católica Porto, explained, in today’s press conference, that the plan for the new strategy is “participatory” and that it will have several think tanks, namely, the “Industry Group”, made up of businessmen, executives, industrial associations and investors, and the “Fashion Group”, made up of creators, ‘designers’, purchasing agents, influencers, journalists, among other actors in the fashion sector. fashion.

The forecast is for this month of March and the first week of April to carry out a “diagnosis” of the event and, after “stabilizing the diagnosis”, start with “individual interviews”.

May will be the month on the calendar to present the conclusions of the work to present a Portugal Fashion project that is sustainable and that contributes to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Portugal, explained these two specialists.

“We are going to contribute to the strategy and the strategic exercise, taking into account the double transition, whether it is sustainability of the industry, whether it is digital,” added Miguel Taborda, from Deloitte.

Alexandre Meireles, president of the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE), declared today that Portugal Fashion is the “anchor event” and “star event” of ANJE, and considered that today was a “very important” day for ANJE and for the future of ANJE. Portuguese fashion.

“When we took office about three years ago, we always said that ANJE is more than Portugal Fashion, but Portugal Fashion is our main event. And we also said that more and more we wanted to transform Portugal Fashion with a connection that was less dependent on public funds and that had more participation from the regions and living entities of the North region and from the footwear industry, the textile industry, jewelry

According to the president of the ANJE, the main objective of the memorandum signed today is to listen to the main forces in the region about the fashion event, to know how it is at the moment and then “to know what to do to transform this Portugal Moda into an event sustainable, less and less dependent on public funds”, and that the entire region develop “its businesses and contribute to the national GDP”.

The 52nd edition of Portugal Fashion has artificial intelligence as its motto and the shows begin this Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. on Rua Latino Coelho.

Until the night of Saturday, March 18, 34 parades, four presentations of the sector, ten events, a professional ‘showroom’, exhibitions and an industrial tour are planned.

Most of the shows in this edition will take place on Rua Latino Coelho, instead of the Alfândega do Porto building, as has been the case in recent years.

The 52nd edition of Portugal Fashion will cost around 450,000 euros, Alexandre Meireles told Lusa.

Portugal Fashion, an initiative to promote Portuguese authorial and industrial fashion, had an average budget of around 900,000 euros, but in the 51st edition it had an available amount of 450,000 euros, a cut justified by the end of funds European Union for Portugal 2020 and the fact that, at that time, the applications for Portugal 2030 had not yet been opened.
