Former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle ignored safety rules while climbing the Harbor Bridge in Sydney, Australia, drawing criticism from local officials for allowing themselves to break the rules.
Obama climbed the famous bridge on the final day of his three-day tour of Sydney, including speaking at an event at the International Convention Center.
The 61-year-old former president, his wife Michelle, and their entourage climbed the bridge through the New South Wales Traffic Management Authority instead of BridgeClimb Sydney.
The group was photographed exiting without bridge-appropriate suits, belts or headscarves, and one of the female attendants was holding a telephone instead of a handrail.
Stating on the BridgeClimb website that unsnapped items such as cameras and phones are not allowed on the bridge during the climb, he said “this is to protect against anything falling from the bridge and secure lockers are provided for people to store their personal belongings. “
