French Vogue cover, Celine Dion returns and opens up about a rare disease: “I know nothing will stop me”

After, in recent months, one of the sisters, Claudette, spoke publicly about Celine Dion’s state of health, the Canadian singer has returned to the media scene and her return has been on the cover of French Vogue magazine.

In an interview with the magazine, Celine Dion spoke about what it was like to live with stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological disease that prevents her from singing, and described how she felt when she received the diagnosis “At first I asked myself: why. me? How did this happen? What did I do? “Is it my fault,” she began by saying.

“We haven’t been able to find any medication that works, but having hope is important,” confessed Celine Dion’s sister

“Life doesn’t give you any answers. You just have to live it! I have this disease for some unknown reason. The way I see it, I have two options. Either I train like an athlete and work hard, or I switch off and that’s it, I stay home, listen to my music, stand in front of the mirror and sing to myself. I chose to work with my whole body and soul, from head to toe, with a medical team. I want to be the best I can be. My goal is to see the Eiffel Tower again! I have this strength inside me. I know nothing will stop me,” she continued.

The artist announced at the end of 2022 that she suffers from stiff person syndrome, a disease that affects one in a million people. In the case of Celine Dion, the disease causes muscle stiffness, spasms and frequent falls, making it impossible for the artist to go on stage for a performance, which is why she canceled the European tour she had scheduled for spring 2023. In May of the same year, the shows that were already scheduled were cancelled.

“For now I have to learn to live with the disease… Five days a week I do sports, physical and vocal therapy. “I work on my toes, my knees, my calves, my fingers, my singing, my voice,” she explained, adding that in recent years she has said so many things to herself that she is not ready to return to the stage as she claims to be: “ The way things are now, I can’t be here and tell you, ‘Yes, in four months.’ I don’t know… My body will tell me.”

Céline Dion’s sister reveals that the singer no longer has control over her muscles

“I’m working hard and tomorrow will be even harder. Tomorrow is another day. But there is one thing that will never stop and that is the will,” he stated, adding that, despite hoping for “a miracle,” he is aware that this is his reality: “For now I have to learn to live with it. This is me, now with the rigid person syndrome.”

Since the diagnosis, the sister has been the one to share news about the singer’s health. In December, Claudette Dion revealed that the singer couldn’t control her muscles but that she hoped to one day return to acting. In August she had already revealed that another sister, Linda, had moved into the house where Celine lives with her three children and that, although the artist was attentive to research in the area of her rare illness, there was no medication that worked. .
