The Supreme Council of the Union unanimously elected Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as President of the UAE on Saturday, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).
The council met in Abu Dhabi’s Al-Sharif Palace, chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Dubai.
“According to Article 51 of the Constitution, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was unanimously elected President of the UAE and successor to the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan,” a statement issued by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs said.
The sheikhs and members of the Supreme Federal Council reaffirmed their commitment to the realization of the original values and principles expressed by the late founder, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who established the UAE’s regional and global position. And upgraded its various national achievements.
The Council “expressed its full confidence that the people of the UAE, as Zayed and its founders wish, will always remain the faithful guardians of the Union and its achievements at all levels.”
Sheikh Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan appreciated the precious trust of his brothers, elders, members of the Supreme Council of the Union, the rulers of the UAE, and asked God Almighty to guide and help him. It is the responsibility of this great trust and to fulfill its right to serve its country and the loyal people of the UAE.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum wrote on Twitter: The Supreme Council of the Union today elected my brother His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as President of the country.
He continued: Muhammad bin Zayed is the shadow of Zayd and his extension in us, he is the founder of the 100th anniversary of our government, he is the guardian of our unity, we congratulate him, we pledge allegiance to him and our people pledge allegiance. “Every country is criticized for taking him on the paths of pride and power, God willing.”
