One person was killed and four others “seriously” injured in a shooting at a church near Los Angeles, law enforcement said a day after 10 people were killed in a New York state supermarket shooting.

The authorities indicated that the believers were participating in a banquet that followed a morning religious ceremony in the church when the armed man began his operation.

During a press conference, Orange County spokesman Jeff Hallock said the believers managed to stop the shooter, adding, “They tied his legs with rope and confiscated at least two weapons” before police arrived on the scene to arrest him.

He stated that investigators are still looking into the motive for the operation, pointing out that the suspected shooter, who was unharmed in the shooting, is believed to be an Asian male in his sixties.

The Los Angeles Times reported that most of the victims were Asians of Taiwanese descent.

Officials indicated they were still investigating details involving 30 to 40 witnesses who were inside the building.
