The Turkish Foreign Ministry summoned US Ambassador Jeff Flake and informed him of its dissatisfaction with the statement made by the embassy on the eve of the start of a political rally in Istanbul yesterday, Saturday.

And the US embassy in Ankara urged American citizens to “stay away from opposition political gatherings in Istanbul, alleging that Turkish police have used water cannons and tear gas to disperse demonstrators on previous occasions.”

In response to the American statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry advised its citizens living in the United States to “exercise caution when organizing mass demonstrations and events in the community”, noting that “there were cases of live bullets, electric shocks and the use of gas during the dispersal of protests, despite actions of the security forces.

And he advised his citizens in the United States to “avoid mass demonstrations and events unless absolutely necessary, bearing in mind the possibility that they may be subjected to violence in events that are difficult to control.”
