A second five-year term was guaranteed when Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, head of the World Health Organization (WHO), ran for reelection in an unopposed vote on Tuesday.
The 57-year-old former Ethiopian Minister of Health and Foreign Affairs will be rewarded by attendees of the WHO’s main annual meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, for resolutely rejecting any attempt at reform in the UN sister organization.

In October 2017, Tedros named Zimbabwean dictator Robert Mugabe a “goodwill ambassador” to help fight NCDs in Africa, sparking anger from health professionals and human rights groups.
