Russian Major General Appointed Minister of Emergency Situations

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday appointed Major General Alexander Kurenkov as Minister of Emergency Situations.

According to the Russian state agency TASS, in statements made before the Russian Senate, Alexander Kurenkov stated that the objectives of his ministry are through increase humanitarian aid in Donbass and establish responsibilities for the authors of fires in the country. In addition, he promised to create better conditions for his cabinet employees.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov assured that Putin knows the new minister welland that he believes that “his professional qualities will allow him to perform the position in an excellent manner”.

A former member of the FSB (Russian secret services that are ‘descended’ directly from the KGB), Alexander Kurenkov also spent time with the Federal Protective Service (FSO) and currently held the position of deputy director of the National Guard.
