One week after the assassination of Revolutionary Guards Colonel Hassan Sayad Khediri in the heart of Tehran, Israel warned its citizens not to travel to Turkey for fear of Iranian retaliation.
The Israeli National Security Council on Monday issued a stern warning to Israelis not to travel to Turkey for fear of retaliation from Israel for its role in the assassination of Iranian Revolutionary Guards Colonel Hassan Sayad Khediri last week.
“Since the assassination,” there has been growing concern in the defense apparatus that Iran is trying to harm Israelis around the world, “the statement said. The warning statement also extended travel to Iran’s neighboring countries such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Turkey.
Khediri was involved in planning attacks on Jews and Israelis around the world.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards at the time described the assassination as a “criminal terrorist act against the revolution and elements associated with global arrogance” – a term often used to refer to the United States and Israel.
According to press reports, Israel was surprised by an information leak allegedly leaked by an American source and published by the New York Times in which it claimed responsibility for the assassination.
Reports indicate that “numerous telephone calls” have been made between Israel and the United States regarding the disclosure of information, and that the two sides have now “gone through the incident.”
However, the director general of the Israeli Foreign Ministry said that the United States should respond to the New York Times report.
Israel has not made any official statement on the incident and has reportedly raised security alerts at its embassies and consulates around the world for fear of retaliation by Iran.
The assassination of Khediri was the most notorious assassination inside Iran since the assassination of prominent nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh in November 2020.
One week ago, Israeli officials informed their counterparts in the United States that the assassination of Iranian Colonel Sayad Khediri was a warning to Iran to stop the operation of a secret group in the Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force, Unit 840. According to the American newspaper “New York Times”.
According to Israeli government, military and intelligence officials, Iran’s 840th Unit is responsible for abducting and assassinating foreigners from around the world, including civilians and Israeli officials.
According to state media, Khediri, a 50-year-old commander of the Revolutionary Guards, was killed outside his home on a quiet residential street in Tehran on Sunday when two gunmen on a motorcycle approached his car and fired five shots at him.
