The interior minister of a German state has openly defended the classification of curfew protesters as “far-right”.
Georg Mayer, the left-wing interior minister of Germany’s state of Thuringia, said he wanted all COVID-19 protesters in the country to be classified as “far-right”.
The left-wing minister’s comments came shortly after the publication of a report by Germany’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution alleging that such “right-wing extremism” remains the biggest threat to the state.
According to the report MirrorMayer demanded that the country’s population be labeled “extremists”—a term commonly used in Germany to refer to those who disagree with the country’s strict discrimination rules.
If the country’s stance towards the Alternative for populist Germany is in any way representative, such a feature could isolate skeptics to the point of covert surveillance, under further pressure from the state.
“We must tighten the classification of organized crime politically, especially among those who deny the coronavirus,” the minister said. Said.
Mayer also demanded the same treatment of so-called “Reich citizens” who allegedly deny the legitimacy of the current Federal Republic, because the state is already prosecuting those deemed linked to the movement.
This is when a former teacher in the west of the country was recently denied a pension for his “critical-democratic” political views, while a former police officer in Bavaria was treated similarly.

Although it is unclear how likely the left minister’s demands are to be heard even if the two groups of people shun the automatic “right” brand, it is likely that the German authorities will intensify their efforts to suppress them anyway.
This was confirmed by a report by the country’s “Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution” that examined the threat from two groups, including “Islamic terrorism” and foreign espionage.
“The Defense of the Constitution report shows that there are many threats to our democracy and the security of the population from a wide variety of fields,” said Thomas Haldenwang, head of the German agency responsible for the report.
“In almost all phenomena of extremism, the number of people has increased again,” he continued, before saying that the task of “society as a whole” is to “neutralize” the so-called “enemies of the constitution.”
Meanwhile, prominent German interior minister Nancy Faezer, who previously wrote for a publication openly linked to Antifa, turned her attention to “extremists on the right.”
“Right-wing extremism remains the biggest extremist threat to our democracy,” said the Antifa-associated politician, before expressing his desire to “destroy extremist networks on the right.”
