Russia’s National Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev has sent a strong message to a European country blocking Russian goods from entering the besieged Moscow region overlooking the Baltic Sea.
Lithuania bears full responsibility for the consequences of its decision to block the passage of Russian goods through its territory to Kaliningrad, the official Tass news agency quoted Medvedev as saying.
Medvedev added that Vilnius did not stop thinking about it.
“Even explaining that Lithuania only implements EU decisions does not help here.”
Medvedev said the European Union had not insisted on measures such as the ban on transit of goods that Lithuania had insisted on.
In early June, Lithuania announced a ban on transit of goods by train to and from the Russian region between Lithuania and Poland, which other parts of Russia could not access through Lithuania.
He attributed the decision to EU sanctions laws.
The Kremlin strongly condemned Lithuania’s restrictions on the movement of goods from Russia to Kaliningrad, calling it an unprecedented siege and a violation of the law.
According to Sputnik, Russia agreed to the withdrawal of the Republic of Lithuania from the Soviet Union to join the European Union after agreeing not to create a barrier to transport between Kaliningrad and other parts of Russia.
