King Abdullah II of Jordan discussed with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Amman the upcoming elections in Israel and their impact on the chances of resuming peace talks between Palestinians and Israelis.

The Jordanian statement stated that “the two presidents discussed at Al Husseiniya Palace in Amman developments in the region, especially the upcoming elections in Israel and their impact on the chances of resuming peace talks between Palestinians and Israelis, and stressed the continued Jordanian-Palestinian coordination to overcome Israeli obstacles on the King Hussein bridge, which causes crowds of travelers.”

The King emphasized, according to the statement, “the need for joint Jordanian-Palestinian action at various levels to develop diplomatic activity in the region after the visit of US President Joe Biden and the convening of the Jeddah Summit on Security and Development, and the King emphasized the importance of continuing Jordanian-Palestinian coordination, especially before meetings of the General Assembly of the United Nations”. The following September, he pointed to Jordan’s desire to reaffirm the centrality of the Palestinian cause to the international community, and stressed the need to include the Palestinian brothers in regional projects, empower them, support their resilience on the ground, and not marginalize them.
