Ukrainians detained by Russian forces are being sent “en masse” to a network of prisons and filtration camps, the Polish secret service said on Thursday.
According to SkyNews, the agency revealed that in these camps the combat experience of the people is verified, whether they are employees of the Ukrainian administrations and what position they take against Russia.
The Polish service says those who do not object are deported to Russia and some are “forcibly conscripted” into the Russian military. They are later sent to fight in the Ukraine. Those who do not comply are “forced to testify” against the country or taken to court as part of “propaganda”.
The United States estimates that 75,000 Russian fighters have been killed or wounded since the invasion began on February 24. The number was given to lawmakers in the Joe Biden administration after a instructions Confidential Wednesday.
“We were told that more than 75,000 Russians were killed or wounded, which is huge,” Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin confirmed to CNN.
Kremlin spokesman Dimitry Peskov has already disputed the number, initially reported by the New York Times. “This is not a statement by the US administration (…) Currently, not even the most reputable newspapers shy away from spreading all kinds of falsehoods,” he charged.
On Wednesday, the Ukrainian president had already announced that Russia has so far lost 40,000 military personnel and that tens of thousands of Russians have been injured or maimed.
