The discovery of the body of a female doctor in Austria has caused a shock, especially after she received death threats after she defended getting the coronavirus vaccine and failing to ensure her own safety.
According to the Associated Press, political leaders in Austria expressed surprise at the death of Dr. Lisa Maria Kellermeier.
And Austrian media reported on Saturday that the body of Dr Kellermeier, a general practitioner who had publicly endorsed the effectiveness of vaccinations against Covid-19, was found in his clinic in a rural area in northern Austria.
Wells County prosecutors confirmed a “suicide” and said diaries were found, the contents of which will not be released.
Kellermeier announced a month ago that he was temporarily closing the clinic, more than seven months after anti-vaccine opponents received death threats.
He said he spent more than 100,000 euros ($102,000) on security.
In mid-July, Kellermeier said he was closing the clinic permanently because he could not provide any perspective on whether or when we would be able to operate under normal conditions.
Austrian President Alexander van der Bellen tweeted that his feelings are with Kellermeier’s family and friends.
He said: Let’s end this intimidation and fear, there is no place for hatred and intolerance in Austria, let’s always find a way to live in peace together.
For his part, Health Minister Johannes Rauch said Kellermeier’s death “shocked me deeply”.
“As a physician who has dedicated his life to the health and well-being of others, the death threats against him and his colleagues were a brutal reality,” Rauch tweeted.
He described the threat as unforgivable and said it “must finally stop”.
In June, Welsh prosecutors closed an investigation into a German suspect of threatening Kellermeier, saying German authorities were responsible for the case.
The Austrian police continued to investigate the unknown persons.
