Finnish President Sauli Niinistö has warned that the unity of Europe could be threatened by an impending energy crisis, expressing concern, among other things, about the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, which could lead to serious energy difficulties for both his country and other EU countries, and the population will have to get used to that the economy will not improve year by year.”

In an interview with Maaseudun Tulevaisuus, he explained: “We in Finland have long been accustomed to living with the idea that next year will be better. It is very difficult to face this turning point when things are not the same as before. The problems will only increase, which could affect the unity of Europe.”

After the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, the West stepped up sanctions pressure on Russia, so Russian assets worth hundreds of billions of dollars were frozen, and the European Union has already adopted 7 packages of restrictive measures, including a ban on coal and oil. However, all this turned into problems for the West itself, which led to a sharp increase in inflation, rising prices for food and fuel.
