Israeli Minister of Regional Cooperation Issawi Frey announced that “a conference that was to be held in Israel next month to celebrate the two-year anniversary of the Abraham agreements to normalize relations between Israel and a number of Arab countries has been canceled due to election demands.”

In this context, the Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz reported, citing Freij, that “the conference was canceled due to the refusal of representatives of the Arab countries to participate in it due to the coincidence of its holding with the Knesset election campaign”, explaining that “the delegates of the Arab countries who had invited them to the conference received messages to Israel saying that they feared that their participation in such a conference would be considered election interference, and as a result, Israel decided to cancel the conference.”

Israel began preparations for the September conference, even before the dissolution of the Knesset, and established contacts with the Abraham Accord countries, the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan.
