Russian Security Council representative Vasily Nebenzya indicated that “Ukrainian forces continue to shell the vicinity of the facility in Zaporozhye, and this could have catastrophic consequences,” and explained that “some facilities at the station have been damaged as a result of Ukrainian bombing.”

Earlier today, the Russian Foreign Ministry indicated that “in the light of the August 19 telephone conversation between the presidents of Russia and France, Foreign Ministers Sergei Lavrov and Ekaterina Colonna exchanged views.” and the bombing of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant by Kyiv troops. Lavrov explained Russia’s principled approach to the current special military operation.

She stated that Lavrov discussed with Kolona the situation around the Zaporizhzhya NPP and the possibility of organizing a visit there by a mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Lavrov assured the French Foreign Minister: “The ongoing bombing of the Kyiv Zaporozhye nuclear power plant threatens all the inhabitants of Europe with a nuclear catastrophe.”
