Starting this Friday, the China National Film Museum will screen six Portuguese feature films and one documentary, in the first foreign film exhibition held this year by the Beijing-based public institution.
The Cines de Portugal sample includes the black and white classic Os Verdes Anos, from 1963, and Listen, the first feature film directed by Ana Rocha de Sousa. Km 224, the new film by António-Pedro Vasconcelos, is also part of the poster.
These are mainly artistic films, showing how real people and culture inspire Portuguese filmmakers to tell their stories on the big screen, the official Global Times newspaper described.
Also in 2016, Beijing hosted a film exhibition comprising a total of 24 Portuguese films, as part of an agreement between the two countries to promote Portuguese works in China and Chinese films in Portugal. In 2015, 32 Chinese films were shown in two cinemas in Lisbon.
This year’s event will run through September 11.
