Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned of a possible accident at the beleaguered Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant in the south of the country after a power outage led to an emergency shutdown of two of its reactors. “I want to emphasize that the situation is still very dangerous,” he said, adding that “any repetition will bring the power plant back to the brink of disaster.”

He also reiterated his call for “a group of international experts to inspect the station, as well as for the withdrawal of the Russian occupying forces from the station.”

Earlier, the Kyiv authorities announced that “the reconnection of the Zaporizhzhya NPP to the power grid the next day after its shutdown amid growing concerns about the safety of the facility.”

The dispute continues between the Moscow and Kyiv authorities over the responsibility of each of them for the situation at the nuclear power plant, as each side accuses the other of carrying out attacks on Zaporozhye, and the UN calls for the creation of a demilitarized zone around the plant to ensure its safety and allow the dispatch of an international inspection mission.
