US Ambassador to Tel Aviv Tom Neides said “the US will not interfere with Israel’s defense against Iran”, stressing that “US President Joe Biden’s administration will not tie Israel’s hands in this regard.”
In a statement to the Israeli newspaper Maariv, he indicated that “the US administration is listening to Israel’s position just as it did when it refused to remove the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps from the list of terrorists,” explaining that “Biden reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to that Iran will not get a nuclear weapon, and that it is interested in a solution.” The diplomat is based on the conditions presented in the draft agreement presented by the European Union.
Nides emphasized: “The US administration will not allow the signing of an agreement that includes closing the files of investigations opened by the International Atomic Energy Agency regarding the discovery of traces of enriched uranium at undeclared nuclear facilities.”
Earlier in the day, EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Josep Borrell said he was less optimistic about a quick deal to revive the nuclear deal than he was just a short while ago.
Tehran has renewed its demand to close the IAEA’s investigation into its nuclear activities under safeguards to revive the nuclear deal, refusing to describe its response to the proposals presented to it as “non-constructive.”
