Oil Minister Timbri Silva said that Nigeria could ship more liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Europe by next winter.

Silva said during his participation in the Gastec conference in Italy that “Nigeria will build a pipeline to transport Nigerian gas through Algeria to Europe”, noting that his country “will soon make a final decision on investment in infrastructure construction project, which is likely to will cost more than ten billion dollars.

He pointed out that “the Italian energy group (Eni) may participate in the project with two state-owned oil companies in Nigeria and Algeria.”

It is noteworthy that European governments are looking for alternative sources of Russian gas supplies and are rushing to avoid a catastrophe in the energy sector this coming winter, in light of the continued decline in natural gas supplies from Russia, which represents about half of European consumption.

And the Russian company Gazprom, a natural gas exporter, announced last Friday that it would stop pumping gas through Nord Stream 1, Europe’s largest natural gas pipeline, indefinitely, as the announcement came hours after an agreement between finance ministers . The G7 of industrialized countries will set a price ceiling for Russian oil.
