European Union Foreign Minister Josep Borrell said the European Union was “deeply shocked” by the discovery of hundreds of bodies buried in a mass grave near the city of Izyum in Ukraine and “condemns these atrocities in the strongest possible terms.”

In his statement, he stressed: “Russian aggression against Ukraine has left blood and destruction in its wake. Russia, its political leaders and all those involved in the ongoing violations of international law and international humanitarian law in Ukraine will be held accountable,” explaining that “the European Union supports all efforts made in this regard.”

Borrell noted that “Thousands of civilians have been killed and others have been tortured, harassed, sexually harassed, abducted and forcibly relocated. This inhuman behavior of the Russian troops must be stopped immediately.”

On Friday, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that “more than 400 bodies” were found at the site of a mass grave near Izyum, recently recaptured by the Ukrainian army from the Russians.
