Nicaragua. Government of Daniel Ortega removes CNN’s signal in Spanish from the air

Canal has not received a response from the government so far

The Nicaraguan government took the CNN signal in Spanish off the air this Thursday (Peninsular Portugal time, 7:07 p.m. on Wednesday in the Central American country). The channel broadcast a release on the cut of his signal, broadcast on the regular broadcast, highlighting “the vital role that freedom of the press plays in a healthy democracy.”

This Wednesday the Nicaraguan government eliminated our television signal, denying Nicaraguans news and information from our network, which they have trusted for more than 25 years,” said journalist Fernando Del Rincón, representing the channel, directly from the studies in Miami.

CNN en Español guarantees that “it will continue to fulfill its responsibility to the Nicaraguan public, publishing news on CNNEspanol.com” and on the YouTube channel so that the country’s citizens “can have access to information that is otherwise not available.” “CNN supports our network’s reporting and reaffirms its commitment to truth and transparency,” Del Ricon concluded.

Despite an attempt to obtain a statement from both the government and the cable operators that broadcast CNN’s signal in Spanish, the channel says no response so far.

Nicaragua lives under the authoritarian government of Daniel Ortega, who is serving his fifth term, the fourth in a row since he returned to power in 2007.
