What is the truth of the image of Putin in “nuclear war” clothes?

Social media users are sharing a post that appears to show Russian President Vladimir Putin in a nuclear war suit.

This post contains two photos, the first photo shows Putin wearing a yellow uniform, mask and gloves, and the second photo shows the Russian president sitting in a meeting wearing the same clothes.

The promoters of the post stated that the photo was taken recently and that he looked like “Putin at an emergency meeting in a nuclear war suit”.

The release of the two images comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin raised the possibility of using nuclear weapons in the event of a threat to Russia’s “territorial integrity” or existence.

Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian president and deputy of the Russian Security Council, stressed that Moscow will defend the territories it plans to annex, especially through “strategic nuclear weapons”.

The nuclear threats, taken seriously by the West, coincided with the end of referendums organized by Moscow in the breakaway regions of Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine and the Russian-occupied regions of Kherson and Zaporizhia in the east, which Ukraine and its allies condemned.

However, two post images have been manipulated.

The first image, in which Putin appears to be entering a composite of two photos, was distributed by AFP on March 24, 2020.

In this photo, the President of Russia, wearing a protective suit, appears while visiting a hospital in Moscow, the capital, treating people infected with the corona virus.

Putin cropped the photo to superimpose another photo taken in 2017 and published by Russian news agency TASS to make it look like he was entering through a door opened by two soldiers.
