The Ukrainian police managed to prevent, this Friday, the attempted theft of a work attributed to the British artist Banksy, painted on a wall on the outskirts of Kiev, local authorities announced today.

????????[Na sexta-feira] in Hostomel [cidade localizada a noroeste da capital Kiev], a group of people tried to steal a Banksy drawing. They cut the work on the wall of a house destroyed by the Russians”, announced the governor of the kyiv region, Oleksiï Kouleba, in a press release published on Telegram.

The post was accompanied by a photograph showing the cut-out wall and orange paint.

According to Kouleba, “several people were arrested on the spot” by the Ukrainian police and “the drawing is in good condition and is already in the hands of the police.”

kyiv region police chief Andrii Nebitov said in a statement that “eight people have been identified.”

“They are all between 27 and 60 years old. They are residents of kyiv and Cherkasy [cidade localizada 200 quilómetros a sudeste da capital ucraniana]”, detailed the police chief, on Telegram.

Andrii Nebitov added that “a preliminary investigation for property damage has been opened.”

In mid-November it was made public that the British artist Banksy painted one of his ‘graffiti’ on the wall of a ruined building in the Ukrainian city of Borodyanka, in the Kiev region, as announced by the Ukrinform portal.

The image showed a girl doing gymnastics resting on the ground and in an almost impossible balance on the remains of one of the walls destroyed by the bombing.

“Banksy’s works in the kyiv region are under police protection,” Kouleba said in a statement.
