The Russian deputy governor of the Kherson region, under occupation by Russian forces in Ukraine, was injured Monday after his car exploded, but is “in stable condition,” Russian agencies said.

Vitaliï Buliouk, the first deputy governor of the Kherson region, which Moscow annexed at the end of September without fully controlling it, “was injured” after “the explosion of his car”, declared the regional health minister, Vadim Ilmiev.

“His condition is stable, (the injury is) of moderate severity”the minister was quoted as saying by the TASS news agency.

According to Ilmev, “the driver of the car died instantly”when “a directional mine exploded and the car was burned.”

The head of the Moscow-controlled Zaporizhia regional authority, Vladimir Rogov, added that the blast took place in Skadovsk, a coastal city on the Black Sea, 70 kilometers south of Kherson.

Bouliouk, once a figure in charge of economic affairs in the region, is hospitalized in Simferopol, in the annexed Crimea.

In early November, Russian forces had to partially withdraw from the Kherson region, following a counteroffensive by kyiv troops.
