Russian foreign minister criticizes “unprecedented pressure” from the West on developing countries

The Russian Foreign Minister on Wednesday criticized the “colonial methods” of the West, with “unprecedented” pressure on developing countries to support Ukraine and what he calls the “imposition of Nazism.”

In a brief statement to journalists after an audience with Angolan President João Lourenço, Sergei Lavrov left messages for the African country, a traditional Russian ally that has recently become closer to the US and other countries, noting that The West “can betray the allies.” ” from one moment to another.

In addition to the steps to follow for the implementation of our strategic cooperation, Lavrov and Lourenço spoke “a lot” about the current situation and “about the support of the West for the practices in Ukraine of the imposition of Nazism and the hybrid war that is being carried out against our country,” he declared.

“We present our views based on the our contacts that prove the unprecedented pressure on developing countries from Africa, Asia and Latin America, in that sense”, he criticized.

“As our president (Putin) has said several times, the West is using the same colonialist methods that it used in the past to, in the same colonialist way, take advantage of the assets of the countries today”added the diplomat.

Lavrov also said that “the West can, at any moment, betray its allies” as happened in Afghanistan and Iraq.

“Serious and responsible countries view these behaviors very well and are willing to take measures to protect their interests, including in the financial sphere,” he stressed.

In this context, he pointed out “very recent initiatives” and the creation of their own currency for the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) and Latin America and the Caribbean, an issue that will be discussed at the summit of this group. at the end of August, in Durban (South Africa), to which a group of African countries will be invited, including the Angolan president, the Russian multinational announced.

According to the working visits schedule, the Russian minister also visits the Dr. António Agostinho Neto Memorial, as well as the tomb of former Angolan president José Eduardo dos Santoswho passed away on July 8 of last year.

Lavrov will soon follow him for a guided tour of the National Museum of Military History and will stop by the School of the Embassy of the Russian Federation before lunch.
