Fact review. Did Idosa die at the Brazilian police facilities after being arrested in the invasions in Brasilia?

Publications are circulating reporting the death of an elderly woman at the Federal Police facilities in Brazil. It is false: no old woman lost their lives and the photograph is of a woman who died in 2022.

The news spread on social networks of the alleged death of a 77-year-old woman on January 9 of this year, supposedly in a “Lula concentration camp.” The date in question is the day after the invasion of the Federal Supreme Court, Congress and the Planalto Palace in Brasilia by supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.

Although most of the posts are vague, some offer more context: they say the 77-year-old woman was detained by Federal Police in a pavilion of the National Academy, along with 1,200 other protesters involved in last week’s invasions, and who lost his life due to lack of assistance for not having received water, food or medical attention after complaining of chest pains.

Various posts began to appear in the hours after the invasions in Brasília on January 8.

The publications refer to a “Lula concentration camp” as facilities of the Federal Police.

Some publications claim that the woman died due to lack of assistance.

The story, however, is false. The photograph that appears in the publications, some of which are illustrated with the Brazilian flag and blood stains, was taken from an image bank (Pexels) and has even been used in other content articles with the titles: “How prevent dental caries due to aging. ”, “See the relationship between sleep and happiness” or “Intestinal microbiota and healthy aging”.

More than that, the old woman who appears in the posts died months before the invasion and the date of death that appears on social media. In a video uploaded to Instagram and reported by G1, the woman’s granddaughter revealed that the old woman’s name is Deolinda Tempesta Ferracini and that she died on October 10, 2022, at the age of 80, following a stroke.

They are taking my grandmother’s photo and they say she died in a concentration camp, political things,” says the woman, whose husband is the author of the image. “Please, if you see it, just report it,” she appealed: “I’m really upset, really. The image bank of my grandmother’s photo does not give the right to misuse. We’ve already fought that once,” she continued, “Now again, fake news pig, disgusting.

The Federal Police has already ruled on the publications on social networks and confirmed that neither this elderly woman nor any other died on the date indicated by the National Academy. “The Federal Police informs that the information that an elderly woman would have died today (1/9) in the facilities of the National Police Academy is false”, can be read on the official page of the website. twitter.

Conclution

It is not true that a 77-year-old woman died at the Federal Police facilities in Brasilia after being arrested for her participation in the January 8 invasions. The authorities have already assured that the death of an elderly woman was not recorded in that place on the indicated date. And a relative of the woman who appears in the images has already come to report that she died in October of last year, three months before the invasions.
