UEFA awards Sir Alex Ferguson medal for his achievements with Aberdeen in 1983

Sir Alex Ferguson, a Manchester United legend, will receive a UEFA Cup-winning medal with Aberdeen, the club he coached from 1978 to 1986.

Former Scottish manager Sir Alex Ferguson, one of the greatest figures in world football history, will collect a medal for winning the 1983 European Cup Winners’ Cup with Aberdeen.

Before becoming a Manchester United legend, with whom he won 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League titles, Alex Ferguson managed Aberdeen between 1978 and 1986.

Ferguson, now 81, accomplished an extraordinary feat in 1983 when he guided Aberdeen to the now-defunct UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, beat Real Madrid in the finalafter extra time, but at that point only the 11 starting players and five substitutes received medals for the win in Gothenburg.

Forty years later, some of the people who were instrumental in that feat will be recognized by UEFA, which will award six additional medals, one of them to Sir Alex Ferguson.

It is a great honor to receive this medal and I am grateful to all those who worked so hard to make it happen. It’s also great to see the recognition of some of the extraordinary people who worked so hard behind the scenes during this immensely successful period for the club.”

Assistant coach Archie Knox and midfielder Dougie Bell, who missed the game through injury, will also receive their respective medals, along with the Donald family, in recognition of then-director Ian Donald and his father and later president, Dick . Donald revealed the Aberdeen.

The same honor will also be awarded posthumously to former Vice President Chris Anderson. and another to the family of Teddy Scott, a historical figure who was a player, coach, physical trainer and then team manager at Aberdeen, who retired in 2003 after almost 50 years at the service of the club.

Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 after guiding Manchester United to their last Premier League title. the 49th of his careerwhich also included a trip to St. Mirren.
