Fact review. Is the goodbye video of the crew of the submersible Titan revealed?

Viral publication ensures that the latest video of the crew of the Titan submersible has been revealed. It’s false.

The tragedy of the Titan submersible has caused a lot of ink to flow in recent days. The searches for the submersible, marked by profound uncertainty about the status of the team and the five crew members, lasted almost a week and generated a considerable amount of news, reports, interviews and analysis in the media from part of the world. The incident also aroused the attention of many users on social networks and led to the publication of a lot of information, some of it false.

For example, on June 24, a user aware a supposed last video of the crew saying goodbye, when the five elements already anticipated that they would die underwater. “Beautiful and sad moment of the crew that was in the submarine. They will lose their lives but they left beautiful words of encouragement.” It is, however, a false publication.

In a dramatic record – to which solemn music was added – in the video, which lasts about two minutes, one of the passengers reveals: “That will be our last night with oxygen.” And, after contextualizing it with the information that the submersible is “at the bottom of the ocean”, in a “dark and sad environment”, he goes on to say that it is “strange how an expedition full of dreams and hopes can end”. so sadly.”

Pressure of 400 kg per square centimeter, sound detected by the US and “very violent” destruction. How an implosion could have destroyed the Titan

Now, analyzing the video, it quickly becomes clear that the content would be, to say the least, bizarre. As is now known, none of the Titan’s passengers were of Brazilian origin. Inside the submersible were the following crew members: the British businessman Hamish Harding, the Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son, the Californian founder of OceanGate, Stockhon Rush, and the former commander of the French Navy, Paul-Henry Nargeolet.

And while none of them are of Brazilian origin or, as far as is publicly known, fluent in Portuguese, in the video it appears that they are speaking in Brazilian Portuguese.

Subsequently, and through a slightly deeper investigation into the origin of the video, it is possible to conclude that we are dealing with content manipulated through Artificial Intelligence.

The image in the post actually refers to an interview given by the founder of Oceangate in 2019 to GeekWire magazine. It is possible to verify the veracity of these images by looking at the YouTube video above. They are the same people who appear in the photograph of the original publication. For example, and as a curiosity, on this occasion the submersible only reached a depth of 100 meters, compared to the approximately four thousand meters it covered on its final journey, when it intended to reach the remains of the Titanic, during the tourist trip which ended up having a tragic outcome.

It is also important to say that the video under analysis was not shared through any official and credible means, but through a Tik Tok account.

Conclusion

No credible outlet has so far released an alleged final recording made by crew members of the Titan, the submersible that suffered a “catastrophic implosion” killing all five on board in mid-June. Furthermore, the content of the video itself, posted by an anonymous TikTok account, is suspect: among other things, because the team (British, American, French and Pakistani) seems to speak Brazilian Portuguese.
