Russia reduces its presence at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant

Among the first to leave the station were three Rosatom officials, who directed the actions of the Russians, and the Ukrainian officials were also advised to leave the station.

Ukrainian authorities revealed on Friday that Russia is reducing its presence at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, about a week after the Ukrainian president warned that Moscow was planning a “terrorist act” at the facility.

The intelligence office of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine indicated, in a message on its Telegram account, that “according to the most recent data, the occupation contingent is gradually withdraw from the territory of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant”.

“Among the first to leave the station were three Rosatom employees, who directed the actions of the Russians. Ukrainian employees who signed a contract with Rosatom were also advised to leave,” that structure revealed, adding that “the instructions given to them indicate that they must leave before July 5.”

Thus, he stressed that “intended destination is the territory of occupied Crimea”, reiterating that among those who left the place were several senior officials.

“Besides, the the number of military patrols is gradually decreasing in the territory of the plant and in the satellite city of Energodar”, he observed.

According to the intelligence office of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, “the employees who remained at the station were instructed to ‘blame Ukraine in case of emergency’”.

Russia has not commented on this information, although the Kremlin recently declared that the Ukrainian president’s accusations are “another lie.”

Last year, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) requested the creation of a safety zone around the plant, to avoid the risk of an accident.

kyiv considers that Moscow uses this type of strategic installations as blackmail, since the possible effects of a nuclear disaster would go beyond the borders of Ukraine.

The Zaporizhia plant, the largest in Europe, has six reactors, which began operating between 1984 and 1995. It has been controlled by Russian forces since March last year, shortly after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and has been the scene constant offensive.
