Brazil and Sao Tome and Principe sign investment facilitation agreement

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil and his counterpart from São Tomé and Príncipe signed an investment cooperation and facilitation agreement in the São Toméan capital.

The Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs and his counterpart from Sao Tome and Principe signed a cooperation and investment facilitation agreement this Sunday in the capital of Sao Tome to boost trade between the two states.

“It will be very important to give guarantees, so that there are cross investments between the two countries, to have more Brazilian companies, Brazilian investments here and also, without a doubt, it will stimulate trade between the two countries and also a participation of São Paulo. Tomé and Príncipe in investments in Brazil”, affirmed the Brazilian Minister of Foreign Relations, Mauro Vieira.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Communities of Sao Tome and Principe, Gareth Guadalupe, considered that “even though it is an emerging State”, Brazil “is a global economic power”, for which the government of Sao Tome wants “a brazilian country”. investors to invest in São Tomé and Príncipe”.

Gareth Guadalupe highlighted the geostrategic position of São Tomé and Príncipe, located in the Gulf of Guinea, as an opportunity for the Brazilian business community.

“We may have Brazilian investors here who can use Sao Tome and Principe as a platform […] for various services that can be provided at the African level”, stressed the minister, who has been the head of Sao Tome’s diplomacy, accumulating functions for less than a month, after the resignation of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sao Tome, Alberto Pereira.

The two ministers also signed a memorandum of understanding between Brazil’s Rio Branco Institute and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Communities of Sao Tome and Principe.

According to the head of Brazilian diplomacy, the memorandum is aimed at training and exchange between the two institutions and internships between officials from both countries.

“It is an important instrument. The Brazilian Diplomatic Academy will be 80 years old in two years and with that we want to strengthen cooperation with São Tomé and Príncipe”, stressed Mauro Vieira.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Santo Tomé stressed that training is one of the important points of the Public Administration Modernization Strategy recently approved by the Executive of Santo Tomé, which has the support of Brazil.

“Brazil, with its vast experience in diplomacy, is naturally something that will favor us, as a State that has a lot to learn from the Federative Republic of Brazil,” said Gareth Guadalupe.

The signing of the documents took place on the sidelines of the 14th Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), in which Brazil is represented by the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva .

The CPLP, which includes Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe and East Timor, is holding today the 14th conference of Heads of State and Government, in Sao Tome and Principe, under the motto “Youth and Sustainability”.
