  • Ukraine does not want to join the EU due to a sympathy vote

“We don’t want any favors because of the war,” said Olga Stefanishyna, referring to Ukraine’s entry into the European Union. The Ukrainian deputy prime minister, quoted by the British newspaper The GuardianHe stressed that he does not want Ukraine to join the European Union through a sympathy vote, noting that within two years the country will have completed the reforms necessary to become part of the European bloc.

“This two-year period we are talking about is just to make sure that we are prepared for membership of the European Union in terms of legal approach, rules and obligations imposed by European directives,” government officials explained.

“We are all united from the President to the local governor [equivalente ao autarca da junta de freguesia em Portugal] with the same objective: to win the war and make sure that the day after the victory we do not start the EU accession process, but rather conclude it,” Olga Stefanishyna highlighted.
