NATO described as “dangerous and irresponsible” Russia’s decision to announce that it plans to soon carry out military exercises with tactical nuclear weapons.

Russia will carry out nuclear exercises near Ukrainian territory

“Russia’s nuclear rhetoric is dangerous and irresponsible. “NATO remains alert”said the spokesperson for the Atlantic Alliance, Farah Dakhlallah, highlighting that the collective position of the members of her organization is proof of the “guarantee of protection of every centimeter of allied territory.”

The spokesperson recalled that Ukraine has the right to self-defense, enshrined in the United Nations Charter, and insisted that Allies “will continue to support Ukraine”.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the Armed Forces this Monday to carry out maneuvers with tactical nuclear weapons, in an operation that should take place “soon.”

These exercises, in which aviation and the Navy will participate, may take place on Ukrainian territory, since the Southern Military District includes the four occupied Ukrainian regions (Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia).

The Kremlin explained that the maneuvers are a response to threatening statements, among others, by French President Emmanuel Macron, who has repeated that he does not rule out sending troops to Ukrainian territory.

Salvini says no Italian soldier will die in Macron’s name

“They talked about the desire and even the intention to send military contingents to Ukraine, that is, to place NATO soldiers against the Russian army. This is a new spiral of escalating tension. It is unprecedented and requires special attention and special measures.“said Russian presidential spokesman Dmitri Peskov in a press conference.
