An Air Europa plane was forced to make an emergency landing at an airport in the Brazilian city of Natal on Monday after experiencing turbulence that left some passengers injured, local authorities said.
Turbulence hit an Air Europa plane and left at least 30 people injured during a flight from Spain to Uruguay with 325 passengers. One of the passengers on board had to be rescued from the luggage compartment.

Zurich Airport Brasil, the concessionaire that manages Natal International Airport, issued an official statement on the incident, describing that at 02:32 hours (06:32 hours in Lisbon), an Air Europa plane, travelling between the cities of Madrid and Montevideo, requested an emergency landing due to strong turbulence encountered during the flight.
The Spanish airline confirmed the incident in a message on the social network (ex Twitter) in which he highlighted that the flight “bound for Montevideo was diverted to the airport in Natal (Brazil) due to strong turbulence.”

“The plane landed normally and the minor injuries reported are already being treated,” he added.
The company also reported that the passengers were transferred to the Brazilian city of Recife, where they will remain before traveling to Montevideo.
Brazilian media reported that at least seven injured passengers were treated for injuries of varying degrees, in addition to an “undetermined number of people with minor bruises.”
The Air Europa plane was a Boeing 787-9, which left Madrid bound for Montevideo, and was not initially scheduled to stop in the Brazilian city of Natal.
