Algarve with 10 million euros of European funds for higher professional technical courses

With the support of European funds, “the aim is to broaden the social base of higher education, in order to attract new audiences, and to guarantee equal access to and completion of education and training.”

The Algarve 2030 regional programme will provide 10 million euros to support higher professional technical courses, the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR) announced on Monday.

According to a press release issued by CCDR/Algarve, this is an “important part of the allocation” of the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) to strengthen qualifications in higher education.

The measure is justified by the regional entity with the fact that the The enrolment rate in higher education in the Algarve stands at 25.4%.in contrast to 42.8% of the country.

So far, he reveals, the ESF+ has supported the Algarve, with 1.3 million euros, a Total of 422 students enrolled in 11 courses Professional senior technicians in the 2022/2024 and 2023/2025 training cycles.

“This policy instrument directly contributes to attracting new audiences to higher education, particularly those coming from secondary vocational training pathways,” he notes.

Applications for the second phase of higher professional technical courses at the University of Algarve will be accepted between 16 and 20 September.

According to information available on the Algarve Academy’s digital portal, in addition to the new offerings in Interior Design, Gastronomy and Food Innovation and Thermalism and Wellbeing, the university is once again betting on opening courses at the Portimão Campus with the CTeSP in Information Systems and Technologies.
