The rumor became true and it became true: Luis Castro fired from Al Nassr

The Saudis announced on Tuesday the departure of the Portuguese coach hired last summer from Botafogo. The decision comes a day after the draw in Iraq for the start of the Asian Champions League.

Three draws in four games, end of the line: Luis Castro has been fired from his position as coach of Al Nassr and is no longer the coach of Cristiano Ronaldo and Otávio. The announcement was made by the club itself on Tuesday and comes a day after the draw against Iraqi side Al Shorta in the first round of the Asian Champions League.

“Al Nassr announces that coach Luis Castro has left the club. “Everyone at Al Nassr would like to thank Luis and his technical team for their dedicated work over the past 14 months and wish them the best of luck for the future,” reads the brief note from the Saudis, who have not yet named any replacement.

The idea that Luis Castro had a long-term future first emerged in August when Al Nassr were beaten by Jorge Jesus’ Al Hilal in the Saudi Super Cup final, but has intensified in recent weeks. In three rounds of the Saudi Pro League, the Saudis have drawn twice and won only one game. and this Monday they drew again with Al Shorta, in Baghdad, in the first round of the Asian Champions League.

Luis Castro began his second season at Al Nassr after finishing second in the Saudi Pro League and failing to reach the quarter-finals of the Asian Champions League in the 2023/24 season. The Portuguese coach arrived in Saudi Arabia last summer from Botafogo. He previously played for Peñafiel, FC Porto, Rio Ave, Desp. Chaves, V. Guimarães, Shakhtar Donetsk and Al Duhail.

Even protein didn’t arrive: Without Ronaldo, Al Nassr draws at the start of the Asian Champions League and adds a second game without a win
