Marcelo pointed to the company Stellantis, which invested 51% of its funds in one year, as an example for the Government to follow. “We don’t have all the time in the world,” says the President of the Republic.
The President of the Republic warned again this Tuesday about the need to comply with the Recovery and Resilience Plan, which arrives “very late”, arguing that, together with the final approval of the OE, it is the greatest challenge of this year.
“I think there are two or three big challenges this year and those are the ones that worry me. One was for the budget to be approved. We’re already halfway there, but It’s not all over yet. It needs to pass the final global vote,” Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa began by stating, questioned by journalists.
On the sidelines of an event in the district of Porto, the head of state criticized the execution of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) which, in his assessment, “it’s too late”.
“It was very important that the PRR be fulfilled. The PRR arrives very late, it does not arrive late, it arrives very late. We have spent so far less than six billion [de euros] and we have to spend a total of 22 billion [de euros] and we have in theory until the end of [20]25, extending to [20]26,” he declared.
In July, in the district of Viseu, the President of the Republic challenged the Government to imitate Stellantis in the implementation of the PRR, after the Minister of Economy assumed that this automobile company is an example for the sector. “I was listening to the president [da Stellantis] Carlos Tavares and the Minister of Economy, who is also fiery, and I told myself: in the same way that with Stellantis it was possible to have, in relation to the mobilizing agenda, 51% compliance in one year, it is necessary that the PRR In general, the compliance rate approaches 51% and exceeds it quickly, which We don’t have all the time in the world.“said Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
For Marcelo, “the State must set its eyes on Stellantis in such a way that in all sectors where the money is available or will be more available it can reach the final recipients, the final beneficiaries who are the Portuguese.”
“The Minister of Economy said very well that Stellantis is an example for the Portuguese economy to imitate. I would also say that it is an example to be imitated by the Portuguese State with unique funds in this dimension. Unique in time and unique in their immediate concentration,” he concluded at the time.
The President of the Republic made these statements at the end of a visit to the automobile factory based in Mangualde, Viseu district, after Carlos Tavares had indicated that this productive unit “is among the group’s top three worldwide.” of Stellantis’ 90 factories. .
At the end of the ceremony, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa told journalists that the pace of execution of the PRR, “despite a recovery that occurred last year, in relation to previous years, continues to be very low“.
The President of the Republic said that it is enough to do the math, between what has already been executed, received and the reimbursement that will be implemented “soon” and “there remains a very big gap.” “There is a very big difference between the money we have available, which has already been contracted, and the money that has already reached intermediary entities, but which, in bureaucratic terms, has difficulty reaching the final recipient,” he said.
In this sense, he warned that the time ahead of us “is very limited”, it is two and a half years, since the final execution period of the PRR is the end of 2026. “We have to recover quickly, we know that we have the execution are better than those of other European countries, but that does not comfort us, we have to improve,” he warned at the time.
