The digital government of the United Arab Emirates has explained what a “green residence” visa is in the country and how to obtain it, showing its benefits.
The Emirates Digital Government has indicated that the green residence visa is a type of residence visa issued in 2021, and allows its holder to reside in the country for 5 years without the need for a guarantor, host or sponsoring employer, and Residency is changeable when it expires.
The government has announced that the green visa has broader benefits for its holders, compared to the regular residence visa, including:
Provide greater benefits in obtaining family members living in the country, and simplify the requirements and requirements for obtaining residence permits of all kinds, for spouse, children and relatives in the first level.
Raise the age of children to 25 years from the age of 18.
Issue a residence permit to unmarried women, regardless of their age.
Give children a determination (disabled) residence permit with their families, regardless of age.
Flexible extensions of up to 6 months after termination or cancellation of residence.
While the validity period of residence for family members is the same as the original residence visa holder.
Regarding people who can apply for green visas, the UAE Digital Government said the following categories can apply for green visas:
1- Green housing for self-employment:
- Obtaining a free work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization
- Minimum bachelor’s degree, specialized diploma or equivalent
- The annual income from self-employment for the past two years must not be less than 360,000 dirhams, or the applicant for this residence must demonstrate their economic solvency throughout their stay in the country.
2- Green housing for qualified workers:
- Work permit in the country under a valid employment contract.
- The person must be a qualified worker, at the first, second or third professional level, according to the professional classification approved by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization.
- The minimum level of education must be a bachelor’s degree, or its equivalent.
- The monthly salary should not be less than 15 thousand United Arab Emirates dirhams.
In this way, residence is separated from work, to facilitate the transfer procedures of qualified workers, and to make the labor market more flexible.
3- Green residence for investor or partner:
The green residence for investors or business partners without a guarantor was created for a period of 5 years, renewable, to replace the previous two years of residence of the investor, with simpler requirements and greater benefits.
Requirements include:
- Investment approval and accreditation of investment value or company.
- The approval of the competent local authority and the consent of the applicant to carry out the activity.
