Mozambique: Nyusi invites the four presidential candidates to a meeting

The Mozambican president assured that his government is open to solutions. Filipe Nyusi promised to discuss the future of the country with all presidential candidates, including Venâncio Mondlane.

The president of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, invited the four presidential candidates, including Venâncio Mondlane, to a meeting this Tuesday and stated that the demonstrations violent post-election install “chaos” and that “Sowing fear in the streets” weakens the country.

“I promise that, until the last day of my mandate, I will use all my energy to pacify Mozambique, I will use it. But to be successful in this mission we need all of us and each one of you (…). “Mozambicans must be together to solve problems”stated Nyusi, in a message to the nation, lasting about 45 minutes, about the “situation of the country in the post-election period.”

By calling for “liberation from selfishness” in this post-electoral process, the head of state, whose last term ends in January, guaranteed that The Government is “open” to, “together”, find “a solution” to the current moment, marked by strikes and demonstrations called by the presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane, who does not recognize the results of the general elections of October 9, announced by the National Electoral Commission (CNE), which have not yet been validated by the Council Constitutional.

“We even need different candidates for the presidency of the Republic. We need the participation of Lutero Simango, Daniel Chapo, Venâncio Mondlane and Ossufo Momade. We need the participation of your employees and followers. I want to take this opportunity to invite all of them, these four that I spoke about, the candidates, to accept my call for us to meet with the four of them, so that together we can evaluate this situation and find a solution. that benefits Mozambicans,” he said.

Nyusi insisted on asking “Calm”, until “the results are validated” by the Constitutional Councilbut he warned that it is the “sum of several wills” and not a “single” will.

“The country needs us all, our people need us. There is no problem that Mozambicans cannot solve. “All problems can be resolved through mutual understanding and seeking consensus,” he appealed.

He also said that it is necessary “a pacifying role” in the country and not “disorder”stating that the current scenario, of demonstrations, street barricades, looting of stores, forced strikes and other acts of violence, in this protest process, which degenerates into constant confrontations with the police, since October 21, represents an “attempt to attack against the State of Mozambique.”

“Against its sovereignty and territorial integrity. You can be sure that throughout this time we have never stopped working to reverse this situation (…) Calm and tranquility will be restored throughout the country, because we are working for it,” said the President of the Republic.
