Municipality of Alenquer supports merchants affected by requalification works

The Chamber of Alenquer approved this Monday to grant extraordinary financial support to the merchants affected by the urban requalification works, which are being carried out in the town of the Lisbon district.

The proposed regulation of the Vila Baixa de Alenquer Economic Support Fund was unanimously approved at the public meeting of the municipal executive.

“During the course of the works, there has been the inevitable closure and/or conditioning of traffic in some streets and the strong limitation of the parking spaces available for consumers to make their purchases,” the municipality justifies in the proposal.

The City Council adds that, as a result of these conditioning factors, “the activity of economic agents in Vila Baixa de Alenquer has been significantly affected by the drop in demand.”

The attribution of exceptional economic support is therefore intended to “mitigate the financial difficulties, evidenced by economic agents (…), with a view to safeguarding the maintenance of jobs”, considering the municipality that these entrepreneurs are “essential for the survival of trade”. ”.

“The support granted from the Fund is exceptional, provisional and temporary (…), referring to the period between November 2021 and December 2022,” says the regulation.

Aid of one thousand euros is foreseen for individual entrepreneurs without employees or for companies per employee, up to a maximum of two jobs.

All companies that operate in this area of the town of Alenquer and that have an establishment open to the public and comply with the rest of the conditions established in the regulations, such as having billing breaks of more than 40% based on the average between November 2021 and December 2022.

The regulation will also be submitted to the municipal assembly, a body in which the PS has a majority, as well as the municipal council, and will enter into force after its publication in the Diário da República.

The municipality plans to complete the rehabilitation works of the Municipal Market and its surroundings and the urban and environmental requalification of the riverbank in 2023.

The urban and environmental remodeling of the right bank of the Alenquer riverbank, which began in October, has a cost of 2.8 million euros and an execution period of 18 months.

The project aims to improve accessibility and safety conditions, requalify existing infrastructures, street furniture, public space, green spaces and leisure and leisure areas.

During the construction period, traffic and parking restrictions are foreseen in Rua Serpa Pinto, Largo Dr. Teófilo Braga and Sítio das Águas, although access to housing, commerce and services in these areas is guaranteed.

In January of this year, the municipality began the requalification works of the Municipal Market (789 thousand euros) and its surroundings (740 thousand euros).

The different works are part of the Strategic Plan for Urban Development of the town, an investment co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) / Centro2020 around 5.5 million euros.

The total investment of all the planned urban requalification was estimated at 11 ME, so the municipality decided to leave out of the financing obtained by the current community framework the urban requalification works on the left bank of the river (2.2 million euros) and the surroundings of the old Chemina textile factory (4 million euros), and proceed, in a second phase, with these works, with municipal funds or other sources of financing to be obtained.
