PCP with a result of 1.6 million in 2021, Left Block with greater loss

EITHER PCP was the party with a seat in parliament that won the largest positive result in 2021raising 1.6 million euros, with the left block introduce the most damageaccording to the accounts disclosed by the supervisory body.

According to the annual accounts of the political parties for 2021, released by the Entidade das Contas e Financiamentos Politicos (ECFP) last Friday, the PCP presented an annual net result of one million 667 thousand euros in 2021a value well above the 351 thousand euros registered in 2020.

According to the accounts presented by the communists, the result is explained, in part, by the funds mobilized through fundraising: if in 2020 the PCP had managed to collect 918 thousand euros in this way, this amount almost doubled in 2021, reaching 1.7 million euros.

The party also increased its income from sales and provision of servicesthus raising 755 thousand euros, about 200 thousand more than in 2020.

The PSD also increased its profitsfrom 854 thousand euros registered in 2020, to 976 thousand in 2021, which makes it the second game with the most positive net result in that year.

Compared to 2020, despite of having received less funds for “fees and other contributions from affiliates” -they went from 1,052 million in 2020 to 903 thousand euros in 2021-, The Social Democrats have seen a significant increase in donations.thus raising 484 thousand euros, compared to 89 thousand in 2020.

PS maintained a net result almost similar to that of 2020recording profits of 353 thousand euros in 2021, 10 thousand euros less than the value recorded in the previous year (365 thousand euros).

Like the PSD, the donations collected by the PS also increased in the year of presidential and local elections: of the 59 thousand euros collected in 2020, the Socialists obtained 565 thousand in 2021.

However, the socialists recorded significant losses on debt impairment: Lost €536,000 in this way in 2021, down from €28,000 in 2020.

Chega was the fourth match with the most positive resultobtaining a profit of 149 thousand euros in 2021, almost tripling the result obtained in 2020, when it had registered a positive 52 thousand euros.

According to the accounts presented, Chega also considerably increased the funds raised through donations: from the 76 thousand euros raised in 2020, it went to 265 thousand in 2021.

In fifth place, PAN presented profits of 66 thousand euros in 2021, although this value represents a cut of almost half compared to 2020, when it had presented a profit of 128 thousand euros.

Along the same lines, Livre recorded a profit of 41 thousand euros in 2021, a lower value than the result it had recorded in 2020, with a positive balance of 117 thousand euros.

The Liberal Initiative, after registering 100,000 euros in benefits in 2020, obtained 27,000 euros in 2021, according to an updated version delivered by the party to the ECFP on Monday.

According to the accounts presented, the Liberals collected more money in contributions, donations or fundraising compared to 2020, but they also increased their spending on various concepts: from the 70 thousand euros spent on staff in 2020, it went to 156 thousand, also doubling the funds reserved for supplies and external services, which go from 84 thousand to 202 thousand euros.

The only party with a parliamentary seat that presented losses was the Left Bloc, recording a negative net result of 58 thousand euros. However, compared to 2020, the party managed to improve its balance in the accounts: in 2020 it had presented a loss of 140 thousand euros.

According to the accounts presented, Bloco de Esquerda significantly reduced personnel expenses –from €850,000 in 2020 to €583,000 in 2021– and external supplies and services, despite having also obtained fewer donations and collections.

The only party that had a worse annual net result than the Left Bloc was the CDS-PP, which lost parliamentary representation in the 2022 legislative elections.

The centrists posted a loss of 110 thousand euros in 2021, a significant drop in the accounts when compared to the results recorded in 2020, when they had made profits of the order of 244 thousand euros.
