TAP wants to “weaken any more radical position” of the union

The National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel (SNPVAC) accused TAP on Tuesday of wanting to “weaken any more radical position” of the union, after announcing an increase in the minimum guarantee, according to an internal note.

In the document, to which Lusa had access, the union indicated that on Sunday it was informed “by the Executive Commission of TAP, of a ‘generous’ increase in the Minimum Guarantee, established in the Emergency Agreements.”

In a message sent to the workers and to which the Lusa agency had access this Sunday, the company underlines that “one of the main objectives defined for these cuts was to be able to adopt a guaranteed minimum wage to which no cuts would apply. The application of this minimum guarantee means that the effective cuts are not 25%, but rather vary on average between 12 and 15%”, says the letter.

As a result of an “open and continuous dialogue, it was decided to update the guaranteed minimum wage from 1,330 euros to 1,410 euros, retroactive to January 2022” and “this will ensure the principle of maintaining the protection of an uncut level of remuneration equivalent to two national minimum wages,” the airline informed the workers.

In the note sent this Tuesday to the associates, the SNPVAC management said that “it cannot fail to be satisfied with the reduction in the cuts of our fellow pilots, thus allowing the company to stop using the argument that the suspension of the 10% of the PNT (Normal Work Period) and payment of overtime to the PNC [pessoal navegante comercial]they are reason to block any type of improvement in the conditions of the workers of the TAP group, as it was spread by the administration”.

Regarding the issue of increasing the Minimum Guarantee, and not the Minimum Wage, as some would like to clarify, this leadership did not agree with such a decision. This is a unilateral measure by the company and it will have to be the company that explains to the workers the reason for this attitude,” he said.

“It seems to us that the objective set is well defined: to weaken the workers and our union, which in recent months has made an effort to improve the conditions of our associates,” stressed the SNPVAC.

The union structure also highlighted that “this maneuver aims to weaken any more radical position that any union can take in a certain capacity”, and that it aims to “weaken” the union “in a future AE negotiation. [acordo de empresa] and its sole purpose is to once again denigrate the image of the TAP workers in public opinion”.

“The cuts to which all workers are subjected are squandering the entire human mass of TAP, they are squandering the soul of our company, as well as our integrity and our professional pride,” he stressed, adding that “about the value in question, that does not reflect the growth/reality of the operationSNPVAC considers it immoral to count pennies in an industry of millions when it comes to workers’ wages.”

“We cannot stop lamenting this accounting rigidity when the reason is the improvement of the human conditions of those who have given so much in the recovery of the company”, he concluded.
