EU approves plan to stop selling diesel or gasoline cars from 2035

The 27 member states of the European Union (EU) approved this Tuesday a plan that prevents the sale of new diesel or gasoline cars from 2035.

The measure aims reduce carbon dioxide emissions to zero (CO2) of new cars from 2035.

However, at the request of some countries, including Germany and Italy, the EU agreed to consider giving ‘green light’ in the future for alternative technologiesas synthetic or hybrid fuels plugif they are able to achieve the goal of completely eliminating greenhouse gas emissions from cars.

The date of 2035, although not yet official, is in line with that recommended by the European Parliament and the European Commission, with whom the countries will have to negotiate the final rules.
