ExxonMobil announced that workers at the company’s refinery in Fos-sur-Mer in southern France ended their strike on Saturday, paving the way for the restart of all idle units. “We are doing our best to resume operations and deliveries as soon as possible so that we can serve our customers as quickly as possible,” said ISO spokeswoman Katherine Lebron.
The strike led to the temporary closure of the refinery on Friday. The company indicated that the refinery’s production capacity is seven million tons per year, equivalent to about 10 percent of its national capacity. ESO workers went on strike on June 28, demanding higher wages to counter inflation. This week, the strike was combined with broader labor movements that have affected other energy companies, such as the state-owned electricity company EDF. Next week, the government plans to introduce a new law aimed at increasing the purchasing power of families.
