The Collaborative Nucleus of the Leiria Region for Green Energy was formalized this Tuesday in Marinha Grande, in an initiative that aims to create new processes and products that contribute to the diffusion of renewable energy sources.
The protocol was signed by the Intermunicipal Community of the Leiria Region (CIMRL), the Leiria Polytechnic, the Business Association of the Leiria Region and five companies.
The document says that the Region of Leiria “is committed to the objective of decarbonization of the economy and energy transitionpointing to carbon neutrality in 2050, as an opportunity for the region, based on a democratic and fair model of territorial cohesion that promotes the generation of wealth and the efficient use of resources”.
In this sense, it is important to implement the Collaborative Nucleus of the Leiria Region for Green Energy (NCGREEN-ENERGY.PT), as network of research and development capabilities and new technologies”with the aim of creating new processes and products that contribute to the diffusion of new renewable energy sources in the Leiria Region”.
According to the documents released by the CIMRL, it is intended, at the regional level and in line with the objectives for a just and inclusive transition in Europe, to develop a strategic approach that guarantees, for example, a strong reduction in net greenhouse gas emissions greenhouse of greenhouses, recognizing the need to “take measures in all sectors of the economy”.
In the field of local contribution, the objective includes the creation of a “control and inspection system” that helps the implementation of energy efficiency “in industrial, public and domestic spheres”, as well as an information system that “makes a bridge between consumers, producers and managers”.
Regarding the external contribution, the initiatives include “helping local educational systems with contributions from companies in the sector to develop specialized courses” or, at the level of the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities, promoting a section of the “Green Municipalities that want take on the challenge of being self-sufficient”.
According to the CIMRL, “this is an informal group (…) with the aim of gathering capacities in the different areas of development of new alternative energy projects.”
This project also aims to stimulate and support new business investments in areas such as biogas, as a biofuel produced from the decomposition of organic materials (of vegetable or animal origin), which decompose, producing a mixture of gases, most of which is composed of methane,” he added.
The CIMRL said that “methane is a fuel gas that can be used to generate thermal and electrical energy and as vehicle fuel,” noting that this type of project “has a high contribution to the problem of bio-waste of animal origin, a passive environment that more worrying in the Lis basin”.
The Minister of the Environment and Climate Action, Duarte Cordeiro, was present at the signing of the protocol, at the Center for Rapid and Sustained Product Development, a research unit of the Leiria Polytechnic.
The CIMRL integrates the Municipalities of Alvaiázere, Ansião, Batalha, Castanheira de Pera, Figueiró dos Vinhos, Leiria, Marinha Grande, Pedrógão Grande, Pombal and Porto de Mós.
