Portuguese who thought to stay in Mexico “three months” and has been in the country “more than seven years” sells startup for 82 million

Mexican ride-sharing startup Urbvan was co-founded by a Portuguese and, last week, was bought by Swvl for $82 million. João Albino had planned to stay in Mexico for “three months”, but he has already been in the country for “more than seven years”. At the age of 32, he managed to sell the startup he founded with his friend Renato Picard.

Graduated in Economics from the Nova School of Business and Economics, at the age of 20 he was in São Tomé and Príncipe to start Move, a microcredit program that aimed to create a fund to support local entrepreneurs. He then decided to go on to a Masters in Strategic Marketing at Cranfield Business School in the UK.
