“These letters are real,” said DeSantis spokeswoman Christina Pushow, along with a copy of the documents to be handed over to the families.
Pushow also challenged claims that the payments were hypocritical, citing conservatives’ criticism that Biden’s excessive federal spending was causing inflation.

Pushawow retweeted in response to someone accusing DeSantis of fueling inflation.
“The federal government causes inflation through deficit spending,” Pushow wrote. “Stimulus tests are part of that. By contrast, Florida’s budget surplus is at the state level, and it’s money we don’t print here. So no, it won’t cause inflation.”

It was not immediately clear who would be eligible to receive the payments. State government filings say 59,000 families will receive checks. First Lady Casey DeSantis hosted a roundtable in Tampa on July 15 to discuss government efforts to support foster and foster families in the state, where funding efforts were announced.
At the roundtable, DeSantis said that $450 per child could be used for food, school supplies, or “whatever it takes for their children to be successful.” The First Lady said foster families, adoptive parents and single mothers are eligible for funding.
The $450 payments are part of the DCF-administered Hope Florida program. The Hope Florida Program “uses Care Navigators to guide Floridians on a path to personalized well-being, the private sector, faith communities, nonprofits, and government organizations to disrupt traditionally siled communities to maximize resources and free up opportunities. It focuses on community cooperation between people,” the administration said in a statement. Its main purpose is to “help people achieve economic independence and prosperity.”
