The Belgian filmmaker Boris Lehman, the Franco-Colombian plastic artist Paula Gaitán and the Ecuadorian filmmaker Alexandra Cuesta participate in the Doc’s Kingdom seminar, the “immersive experience” in the documentary, in September in Arcos de Valdevez.
Created more than two decades ago, the Doc’s Kingdom seminar brings together for a week “an international community of 100 participants for an intense meeting of sessions and debates with the presence of 10 invited filmmakers“, explains in a statement the Apordoc association, which organizes the event in that municipality of the Viana do Castelo district.
Among this year’s guests is the Belgian filmmaker Boris Lehmann78 years old, whose essay, experimental and biographical work covers more than four decades of work and that “invades personal spaces: the room, the artist’s studio, the photo album,” says the organization.
He, whose work has been present at the DocLisboa festival, is also joined by the photographer and director Paula GaitanFranco-Brazilian artist Joao Vieira TorresEcuadorian filmmaker alejandra costs and the Portuguese artist duo Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela.
The director of the Cinematheque, Jose Manuel CostaHe will also be at Doc’s Kingdom to talk about Robert Flaherty’s film “Nanook of the North” (1922), which turns a century.
To encourage full participation in the seminar and enhance the full immersion experience, the seminar does not advertise the film schedule in advance.
Doc’s Kingdom, scheduled from september 1st to 6thIt has been held in Arcos de Valdevez since 2015, after having already taken place in Serpa, in the Beja district, and in Faial, Azores.

Doc’s Kingdom also includes a residency program for fellows from the seminar, including Agnieska Szeffel, programmer of the Polish New Horizons festival, Cátia Rodrigues, programmer of the Curtas Vila do Conde Festival, Argentine director Fernando Restelli, and Portuguese director Clara Jost.
