Taxpayers have until this Wednesday to pay the second IMI installment

Owners with an IMI value of more than 500 euros and who have not opted for the full payment of the tax in May, have until this Wednesday to pay the second installment.

According to data from the Tax and Customs Authority (AT), of the total settlements issued this year (by the IMI for 2021), a total of 679,435 exceed 500 euros.

According to the legal regulations that frame the IMI, whenever an owner has a tax quota greater than 500 euros, it is automatically divided into three installments of the same amountthe second being paid during the month of August.

In May, the payment of the Municipal Tax on Real Estate (IMI) began, with the issuance of 4,009,718 settlement notes, of which 895,969 were worth less than 100 eurosthus generating a single payment note.

For the rest, the payment is divided into two or three installments, to be paid in May and November or May, August and Novemberif its value is between, respectively, 100 and 500 euros or exceeds 500 euros.

Out of this phasing are the owners who, in May, opt for the full payment of the tax.

According to an official AT source, this year a total of 580,811 banknotes settlement value more than 100 euros.

This number translates a 3.85% increase compared to those who last year used this option to pay the Municipal Property Tax in a single payment.

The IMI rates are set annually by the municipalities, in an interval between 0.3% and 0.45% (for urban buildings), it is also up to them to decide whether to adhere to the family IMI, a mechanism that grants a discount to resident families, or on the application of increased rates in empty or dilapidated buildings.
